Visit to Art Center of Design in Pasadena

Lauren and I, along with my friends Rachel and Michael attended the Evening at the Art Center of Design.  Michael was my Typography teacher and run RAMP creative with Rachel.  Michael was by far one of my best teachers today and I value him as a friend.

I was thoroughly impressed with everything Art Center had to offer. The philosophy is great!  They aren’t a college for people to explore in…  They are people that are serious & passionate about the various creative design fields.  The Alumni’s that come out of Art Center of Design are the type of people that think outside the box and make the world a better place.  This isn’t the place for the lazy hippy artist!  THIS IS THE TYPE OF PLACE I NEED TO BE.  Around other individuals that are driven for greatness!

I think, I maybe changing my initial plan of going to a regular university to get my BA then to a Art School for a masters.  I wanted to make sure I had a well rounded education,  but I am the type of person that will never stop learning and bettering myself so I am very confident that I can continue my education after Art School.  I am just way to thirsty to dive into serious design, College of the Canyons has a great program for a 2 year school but I feel I have out grown it. I find myself pushing myself to make the classes more challenging.

Like any private college it is going to be pricey but… I need to follow my dream and satisfy my art obsession.

Rest Is Peace Lily Burk

Rest in Peace Lily Burk

This tragic story has felt like a weight this week.  I was on the brink of tears monday as more and more news kept coming in about 17 year old Lily Burk.  From the moment I looked at her, I couldn’t stop wondering how someone could brutally kill someone so young & inncent., someone that gave her time to help injuried birds or volunteered at the local homeless shelter.  That isn’t your normal Los Angeles teenager volunteering to go work witht he city’s scum, Lily had to have been someone special.  Someone that would have been part of the SOLUTION…

I became enraged this week, when I read comments on La times website from random internet low lifes trying to point their finger at the parents!  I know, had I heard that in person….. oh it would have gotten ugly!  My heart is broken for this mother!  She will probably blame her self for this the rest of her life!  Which means she lost her daughter and gained a lifetime of guilt!  Then some annoynmous waste of skin wants to heap guilt on this poor lady!  There is only one person to blame for this tragedy and his name is Charles Samuel.

I really hope Charles Samuel gets what he deserves!  I hope he lives in fear the rest of his days!  I hope some day he feels the terror that Lily Burk felt last Friday!

I hope that through this tragedy families might teach ladies never to let an Abducter isolate!  Lily Burk was abducted and killed in broad day light on one of the busier streets in Los Angeles!  If we can learn one thing, it is ladies need to put up the fight, were someone might see it!  If they get in your car and tell you to drive you crash that car in the most public place possible!  Dial 911 and put the phone somewhere, all newer cell phones have GPS built in them.

Lily’s crucial mistake, was being innocence and cooperating with a monster!  One of lifes greatest challenges is to have a positive outlook on life but to be aware of potential problems or problem people.

Lily Burk, Rest In Peace!  My heart goes out to the family, I wish I had the privilege of knowing them.

The Killers // Hollywood Bowl / September 16th

The Killers // Hollywood Bowl / September 16th

The Killers at the Hollywood Bowl!

Lauren and I plus her sister and friend are going to see these guys September 16th at the Hollywood Bowl.   The Killers are probably the newest band that I would enjoy to see in concert, they pretty much  single-handedly brought Indie Rock to the the mainstream!  I am excited enough to put up with the Hollywood Bowl, let’s hope The Duke Spirit doesn’t open for these guy too.  HAHA

U.S. History

I enjoy this class much more!  Although it is just as much work as Algebra!  I have a 100 question take home exam this weekend which is due on Monday, and a written exam on Monday as as well.

Algebra Update

After eagerly awaiting for my Algebra Grade to post, it finally came through this week with a B!  I am happy about that, after the 46 I scored on the Wednesday before the final.  I was pretty much in the pressure cooker!  I am not sure what I scored on the final but I am pretty sure I was just a few points from an A.  The only downside is my overall GPA drops from 3.74 to 3.66, it is a big hit because math classes are 5 credit classes!

Fall Registration

I registered for my fall classes this week.  I had priority registration so I was able to get everything that I needed.  I am going to be doing a Tuesday / Thursday 8am to 7 pm schedule this semester.  It will be nice to have any night classes this semester.  The last Fall, Winter  and Spring, I was taking classes night classes Monday – Thursday!  I am excited with this schedule because I do have some large breaks between some classes that will allow me to relax or get some studying needed.

My Fall Schedule
08:00-09:20am – Geography
10:30-12:55pm – Computer Illustration
01:15-03:40pm – Intro to Digital Media
05:00-07:25pm - MORE ALGEBRA

Work Updates

I don’t talk about work very much, probably because I am pretty content with it at the moment.  I don’t get paid a ton, but the people are great, and the environment is about as stress free as a work place can be.  We all pretty much do our jobs and work as a team.  My boss is flexible with school, something that I would never get in Corporate America!  You would never hear a boss say education is the most important thing!

I had a 1 on 1 with my boss’ boss, which I think went really well.  I think he does a fabulous job of running our department.  Not really planning on going anywhere  anytime soon.

My Neighbors Arrested for Burglary

My Neighbors Arrested for Burglary

Anyone that was following me on twitter might have seen my morning “tweet”  July 14th.

Ok, I come out of my house this morning to find my neighbors hand cuffed sitting on the curb. Batering ram sitting on the grass…” Quote from my July 14th twitter feed

It was a pretty alarming sight to see your neighbors hand cuffed and about 8 plain clothed cops right when you open your door in the morning!  It was the first think I saw! One of the officers was night… just said “HI”.  I was a little in shock, so not sure if I said anything back.

I did some initial investigation, which turned up empty.  That ruled out that it was a Santa Clarita Sheriff sting.  So I started guessing.  They were caucasian so I ruled out ICE [Immigrationand Customs Enforcement].  FBI seemed a little much, unless they were running a ink jet printer counterfeit ring or credit card fraud.  My guess was D.E.A, my only problem with that theory was D.E.A agents are typically pretty marked up, with their black and giant white letter jackets.

I was pretty much at a loss, until yesterday when I found out it wasn’t a federal organization but another police department!  Santa Clarita Sheriff’s department assisted in the aprehension of these guy wanted for “questioning” for a series of burglaries in the Van Nuys area.  I gotta give propts to these guys for having so much going on outside my place with almost no sound!  Why do criminals try to do crime in Santa Clarita?  We have one of the best run police departments in the state!  They keep crime low, cover one of, if not the biggest area in the state, and deal with the public like no other station.

Thanks Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Department for doing a great job and keeping my city safe.

Rileybird - 30 x 40" Acrylic Painting

Rileybird - 30 x 40" Acrylic Painting

It has been tough the last few weeks to get this project finished by the 24th.  Between Work, Algebra, and Life oh and I get sick the day before the deadline!

The painting is of my favorite little best friend Riley, who has been through a lot with me the last 2 years I have had him. The Happy face on the back of the shoe is my signature much like the way Shepard Fairey signs his work with the Andre the Giant face.  The “LIVE ART” is taken from the theme of the Art Festival.

Like most of my projects I started in illustrator and drew out what I wanted the painting to look like.  I took inspiration from pop art focusing on brighter colors and the use of the half tone patterns!

I really enjoyed making this and I hope the judges like it too!
