I went to the concert with XX, Her Sister and their Friend Amber.  I had never met Amber before,  but thought she was super cool, going to school to be a lawyer for good!  I took off early from work to head down and pick them up.  I arrived at XX’s house to a bunch of girls trying to get ready for a concert, enough said…LOL  We got out there in a pretty reasonable time frame, they did better then I thought they would.  I learned that girls debate about wearing something called Chicken cutlets…  I don’t think it is real chicken.

We started to head down toward Hollywood, hit a little bit of traffic.  XX was doing something to Janessa’s eyes, not sure what.  I was ranting like an old man about politics to Amber, she didn’t seem to mind or maybe she was being polite.  I kept looking back telling Janessa that she looked worse then before…LOL

We parked at the Church near the Hollywood bowl, only place to park for a concert at the Hollywood bowl.  It is cheap only $20, and they don’t stack people in there!  So once you walk down the hill you can go!  Once we made sure Janessa had the tickets we walked over to Hollywood and Highland and got some food at CPK.  They sat us outside which was cool because Panic at the Disco!  was playing a free concert for Hot Topic about 20 yards away or so.  Best Dinner Music I have ever had.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that Killers will go down as ONE OF the greatest American bands! Now before you Music snobs make a mess in your dickey’s listen up. These guys just don’t miss! From “Hot Fuss” all the way to there most recent album “Day & Age”, they nail it every time! The music is always solid. Even their B-Side record Saw Dust is awesome! I keep expecting them to put out an average record.

Brandon Flowers shows glimmers of Freddie Mercery at times, NO he doesn’t have the “pipes” that Freddie did but who in Rock does? I referring to his stage presences. Musically The Killers always have so much going on, I love that they have a Keyboard! I think it adds so much!

The Killers // Hollywood Bowl / September 16th

The Killers at the Hollywood Bowl!

Lauren and I plus her sister and friend are going to see these guys September 16th at the Hollywood Bowl.   The Killers are probably the newest band that I would enjoy to see in concert, they pretty much  single-handedly brought Indie Rock to the the mainstream!  I am excited enough to put up with the Hollywood Bowl, let’s hope The Duke Spirit doesn’t open for these guy too.  HAHA

U.S. History

I enjoy this class much more!  Although it is just as much work as Algebra!  I have a 100 question take home exam this weekend which is due on Monday, and a written exam on Monday as as well.

Algebra Update

After eagerly awaiting for my Algebra Grade to post, it finally came through this week with a B!  I am happy about that, after the 46 I scored on the Wednesday before the final.  I was pretty much in the pressure cooker!  I am not sure what I scored on the final but I am pretty sure I was just a few points from an A.  The only downside is my overall GPA drops from 3.74 to 3.66, it is a big hit because math classes are 5 credit classes!

Fall Registration

I registered for my fall classes this week.  I had priority registration so I was able to get everything that I needed.  I am going to be doing a Tuesday / Thursday 8am to 7 pm schedule this semester.  It will be nice to have any night classes this semester.  The last Fall, Winter  and Spring, I was taking classes night classes Monday – Thursday!  I am excited with this schedule because I do have some large breaks between some classes that will allow me to relax or get some studying needed.

Work Updates

I don’t talk about work very much, probably because I am pretty content with it at the moment.  I don’t get paid a ton, but the people are great, and the environment is about as stress free as a work place can be.  We all pretty much do our jobs and work as a team.  My boss is flexible with school, something that I would never get in Corporate America!  You would never hear a boss say education is the most important thing!

I had a 1 on 1 with my boss’ boss, which I think went really well.  I think he does a fabulous job of running our department.  Not really planning on going anywhere  anytime soon.

My Hollywood Bowl Experience is typically always the same.  It pretty much sucks until the band i came to see plays.  Then all the crap you have to wade through to get to that point all becomes worth it.  This night was no different.  The bad parking, exhausting hike up the various hills, long lines for everything, Stupid people and the painfully boring Duke Spirit all was worth it to hear Incubus!  So before I knew it, It was dark and the lights on stage turned a bright blue and some figures walked on the stage.  The crowd went crazy!

These guys were amazing!  Bands like Incubus can not be captured on a CD.  The power & energy of the music was captivating!  The song selection was near perfect!  They gave the crowd a great show!  I was surprised they didn’t play their new single which is unusual as most band try to push the new stuff. Even go so far as to skip some of their older more popular songs, Metallica did this when I saw them last December.

My Favorite songs, Megalomaniac, Wish Your Were Here and the grand finale Aqueous Transmission! Were most impressive! Overall Incubus is an awesome live band!  I would love to see them in a smaller venue like the Gibson or Greek Theatre.  If you get the chance to see Incubus do!

About the Hollywood Bowl

I personally think The Hollywood Bowl is way overrated!  I get it… the Beatles played here, but what have you done for me lately.  The parking situation is by far the worst!  There are insane lines for everything!  Then there is the whole “MOB STUPIDITY FACTOR”, which means the more people there are in one location the stupider people act!  I also found out that AT&T lies, by having my iphone say I have 5 bars and 3G but really, I have nada!  My iphone was dead through the entire show!  I don’t understand how AT&T can seriously find that acceptable!

I guess I missed the memo that said you must be, Fat, Tattooed, and smoke.  I have never seen a concert with almost zero eye candy!  This seems like an amazing feat considering how many people were there!

Opening Act // The Duke Spirit

The Duke Spirit Opening for Incubus at Hollywood Bowl

I saw The Duke Spirit 2 years ago opening up for Queens of the Stone Age and The Eagles of Death Metal.  I remember thinking these guys have some potential.  Now fast forward 2 years later and they are still an opening band, that seemed to me at least, to be going through the motions.  Here they are playing at a KROQ sponsored Hollywood Bowl gig, and they seem bored.  If The Duke Spirit is interested in The Duke Spirit’s music, why should I be?  I believe Liela Moss lacks the passion to play on such a big stage, she claimed in a recent interview not to be afraid of big stages, because she is short sighted and can only see the first few rows.  This could be true, and evident with the lack of energy in the performance.  This performance topped my previous choice for worst opening band, which was PLAIN White Tees [emphasis on the PLAIN part] opening for Blue October, so quite an amazing feat considering how much PLAIN White Tees SUCKED!

People cheered when The Duke Spirit left the stage.  I think it was because they stopped playing.

Concert Review: Incubus // The Duke Spirit // Part 2

I am excited this is the last week of my 5 weeks Algebra torture session!  Right now, I think I am in the B range, which I will gladly take being I haven’t been in a Math class in probably 13 years!  Last week of any session is always exhausting, and this week will be no different with a test on Wednesday and the Final on Friday!  After this class, U.S. History will start on Monday which  will be a welcomed change!   I will be taking Prof. Varga again who I took in the Spring Semester and   got an A, so I am hopefully I will pull another.

Incubus Tomorrow

Incubus at the Hollywood Bowl July 13th

Tomorrow.  I am going to see INCUBUS at the Hollywood Bowl!  I have never been really impressed with the Hollywood Bowl in the past.  Last year, I saw Stone Temple Pilots and John Williams.  This time I got a little better seats so hopefully, it will be better then those concerts.  After going to the Greek Theatre on Friday,  I would much rather see them there!  Much less walking and about 3X smaller!
